Date

2011-present

Polar Souls is a multimedia project about the Native American enclave of Arctic Village located high in the Brooks Range of Alaska, accessible only by small plane. The village is inhabited by approximately 160 Gwich’in natives and is situated at the edge of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The project follows a 14-year journey by the photographer Scott Sternbach and a small group of his students as they engage with the “Souls” of the refuge and learn of their triumphs and struggles.
